About the Role
Commonwealth Public Relations, an established and respected PR agency headquartered in Richmond, VA with more than 17 years of experience, is looking for a creative, strategic and highly organized Social Media Account Manager to join our team. This person will be responsible for managing day-to-day social media strategy and execution for a diverse portfolio of clients, developing engaging content, monitoring trends, analyzing performance and helping clients use social media to achieve their broader communications and business goals.
The ideal candidate is equal parts strategist, creator and account manager. You should be comfortable developing a social media strategy, writing copy, creating graphics, capturing and editing short-form video, scheduling content, presenting recommendations and using analytics to continually improve performance.
You should also be someone who genuinely enjoys social media and stays ahead of the ever-changing landscape, from emerging Instagram trends and TikTok-style content to LinkedIn conversations, YouTube video and changes to platform algorithms and functionality.

What You'll Do
Social Media Strategy & Account Management
- Develop and execute social media strategies aligned with client communications, marketing and business objectives.
- Serve as a day-to-day social media lead for assigned client accounts.
- Develop monthly and quarterly content strategies and editorial calendars.
- Identify opportunities to increase engagement, awareness, audience growth and brand visibility.
- Monitor social trends, platform updates, emerging content formats and relevant conversations to inform client
- recommendations.
- Participate in client meetings and confidently present social media strategies, content plans, performance reports and
- recommendations.
Proactively bring new ideas and opportunities to clients rather than simply executing requested content.
Content Creation
- Write compelling, platform-appropriate copy for social media channels.
- Develop original content concepts, campaigns and recurring content series.
- Create graphics and visual assets using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar platforms.
- Capture and edit short-form video and other social-first content.
- Repurpose existing client content, earned media, photography, video and other assets for social channels.
- Ensure all content reflects each client's unique brand voice, messaging and visual identity.
- Social Media Management
- Manage content calendars and schedule posts across multiple platforms.
- Manage and create content for Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.
- Monitor comments, messages, mentions and relevant conversations and recommend or execute appropriate responses.
- Stay current on platform best practices, algorithm changes, new features and emerging trends.
- Maintain accuracy, consistency and quality across all client channels.
Analytics & Reporting
- Pull, analyze and interpret social media analytics and performance data.
- Identify trends and insights within performance data and translate them into actionable recommendations.
- Track key performance indicators including engagement, reach, impressions, audience growth, video performance and website traffic.
- Use performance data to continually refine content and social strategy.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of professional social media experience, preferably within a social, PR, communications, marketing agency environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts from strategy through execution and reporting.
- Strong understanding of Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.
- Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills.
- Experience creating social graphics and visual content.
- Experience shooting and editing short-form video.
- Strong understanding of social media analytics and the ability to turn data into strategic recommendations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple clients, projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with account teams.
- Strong client-facing communication skills and the confidence to make strategic recommendations.
- A creative mindset and genuine curiosity about what is happening across social media.
- Ability to quickly learn new platforms, tools and technologies.

You are proactive, resourceful and comfortable working in a fast-paced agency environment where priorities can shift quickly, and no two clients are exactly alike.
Preferred Qualifications
- Agency or PR firm experience.
- Experience managing multiple client accounts simultaneously.
- Experience with social scheduling and management platforms such as Sprout Social, or similar.
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut or other graphic/video editing tools.
- Experience developing social campaigns and integrated PR/social media initiatives.
- Familiarity with paid social media and boosted content.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $55,000–65,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
